Grand Opening and Floods

Go hand in hand

June 7, 2005 , marked the 10th Anniversary to the day, of the flood of 1995. The M.D. of Willow Creek, as well as its many ratepayers and inhabitants of the tributaries around the M.D., braced themselves for another cleanup as rain poured from the heavens in buckets.

June 17, 2005 , marked the celebration of the Grand opening of the new M.D. facilities west of Claresholm on Highway 520. The day began like any day has begun this June with the rain pouring down on us in buckets. However, that didn’t stop the droves of people anxious to see the new “digs”. The guests were treated to a tour of the new office building and M.D. Shop as well as a well deserved lunch put on by the Stavely Elks. (Good Job guys!)

What party would be complete with out popcorn and cake?

Two cakes were made for the occasion-one celebrating the big grand opening and another in honor of Alberta’s 100th. (Thanks Rita!)

M.D. Councillors were on hand with Evan Berger (REEVE) as MC, to congratulate the staff on the patience and cooperation during the construction as well as their over all workmanship through the whole year.

The Honourable Dave Coutts representing the province was on hand to give a few wise words to the staff and ratepayers of the M.D.  Mr. Steve Lamoureaux, was also in attendance representing Western Diversification.

As the ribbon was ceremoniously cut the rain fell quite hard, like the beating of a base drum, leaving staff and ratepayers to wonder if June 17, 2005, was to be another day of record flooding. Thankfully the storm passed later that evening.
